Realism and Representation

In this body of work, I explored the idea of constructing an abstract design from objects that both exist physically and are projected, so thus have no solid form; it is through the medium of photography that the projection is given solid form. The work explores ideas of space and the formal relationships between objects, concerned with the design qualities, influenced by past movements such as Constructivism and Suprematism. Furthermore, the work explores the idea of how representation can turn towards abstraction, but also addresses the ideas of abstraction within photography – can a photographic object been seen as abstract when it has an indexical link to the real, but on the flip side can a photograph be anything other than an abstract representation of reality?
